The Traffic Safety Association of Macomb (TSA) is an approved provider through the Michigan Department of State (MDOS) to teach the Basic Driver Improvement Course (BDIC),
The State of Michigan passed a law beginning December 31, 2010 which provides the Basic Driver Improvement Course to Michigan licensed drivers. Anyone who has received a civil infraction or moving violation ticket in Michigan on or after December 31, 2010 for a violation of three (3) points or less will receive a letter from the State of Michigan informing them of being a candidate to take the BDIC — the candidate may take the BDIC class, but is not legally obligated. The State uses the process of suppressing the ticket so that the violator’s ticket will not be sent to their automobile insurance company as an incentive for people to take the course.
Eligible drivers will have 60 days to arrange for and successfully pass the course. TSA will electronically notify the Secretary of State of the BDIC results and then the driver will not have the points on their driving record with the Secretary of State. The Secretary of State will not submit the violation information to their insurance company and no one can see the violation except for law enforcement and courts.
TSA offers the BDIC as a 1-day Saturday class 8:30 am through 2:30 pm. The fee for this class is $80.
